Business ultrabook with dual-drive storage

The Dell Latitude 5590 is a 14.0 inch Windows 10 Pro laptop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90 GHz. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive arrangement of 128 GB M.2 plus 1 TB secondary SSD provide capacity for large local datasets. The 1920 x 1080 IPS non-touch display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 suit office productivity and remote management tasks.

Upgrade from single-drive or low-memory models

Replacing a machine limited to a single hard drive or 8 GB of RAM removes the storage bottleneck and allows simultaneous virtual machines or large spreadsheets. The jump is worthwhile when current hardware forces frequent file shuffling or memory pressure during multitasking. Buyers who need discrete graphics for CAD rendering or gaming workloads should look elsewhere.

Verify port requirements and charger compatibility

Confirm that the available USB 3.0, USB Type-C with DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA outputs match your dock or monitor setup. Check that the optional Thunderbolt implementation on the Type-C port meets any peripheral bandwidth needs. Ensure the supplied power adapter matches the unit's 4.19 lb chassis specification before deployment.

Questions about this item

What are the exact width and depth measurements so I can check if it fits in my bag?

The chassis measures 14.8 inches wide by 9.87 inches deep, and the front edge is 0.9 inches high.

Which screw or latch do I remove to access the M.2 slot for the 128 GB drive, and what is the common mistake?

Remove the nine base screws, then pry the bottom cover starting at the front lip; the mistake is forcing the cover near the hinge before the front clips release.

When should I replace the 4.19 lb battery pack if run time drops noticeably?

Expect the internal battery to last 2 to 3 years of daily charging; swap it when a full charge yields less than half the original unplugged runtime.
