Compact business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7290 is a 12.5 inch notebook built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4 memory in a 16 GB x 2 configuration and a 1 TB PCIe M.2 SSD. A 720p webcam and Bluetooth 4.1 complete the core feature set.

Suited for office mobility not creative work

This laptop suits users who need a lightweight Windows machine for document editing, email and video calls. The HD 1366 x 768 non-touch display and integrated graphics limit its appeal for photo editing, video production or gaming. Buyers who require a higher resolution panel, a discrete GPU or a touchscreen should look elsewhere.

Deciding spec 12.5 inch HD non-touch screen

The 12.5 inch 1366 x 768 non-touch display is the specification that determines fit. It defines the physical size, the pixel density and the lack of pen or finger input. If that resolution and form factor match the workflow the i7-8650U, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD will deliver responsive performance for general business tasks.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Intel Core i7-8650U get when the laptop runs all day?

The quad-core i7-8650U operates at a 1.9 GHz base clock and can boost to 4.2 GHz, with Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated; thermal output scales with sustained load on the 12.5" chassis.

What cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB 3.0 and USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort?

The laptop provides a pair of USB 3.0 ports and USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort functionality, so you need compatible USB 3.0 devices or a Type-C to DisplayPort cable for external monitors.

Will my older SATA SSD work alongside the installed 1TB PCIe M.2 drive?

The system ships with a 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD and 32 GB DDR4 RAM (16 GB x 2); the specifications list no 2.5" SATA bay, so an older SATA drive would need a USB enclosure.
