Latitude 7480 with i7-6600U

The Dell Latitude 7480 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by a dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U processor running at 2.6 GHz. It comes with 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD running Windows 10 Pro. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1920 x 1080 non-touch display.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This configuration suits mobile professionals who need a lightweight 14.0" chassis with Thunderbolt 3, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet for docking or presenting. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a discrete GPU for 3D work, or more than two CPU cores should look at other models.

The deciding specification

The dual-core i7-6600U with 4MB L2 cache is the specification that determines whether this laptop matches your workload; it provides efficient performance for office applications and multi-tab browsing but limits heavy multi-threaded tasks.

Questions about this item

Will the 512GB NVMe SSD need to be replaced for more capacity later?

The 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 drive is user-replaceable; a larger M.2 NVMe module can be installed when additional storage is required.

What limits sustained performance of the Core i7-6600U during long workloads?

The dual-core 2.6GHz Skylake CPU with 4MB L2 cache will hit thermal throttling before the 32GB DDR4 memory or integrated HD 520 graphics become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the 14.0" FHD laptop get when running all day?

Under continuous load the fan spins up noticeably and the chassis near the Thunderbolt 3 port becomes warm, while the 520 GPU stays within its thermal envelope.
