Business laptop with Thunderbolt 3

The Dell Latitude 7480 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor running at 2.6 GHz. It ships with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB SATA M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 suit office applications, video calls and external monitors via HDMI or Thunderbolt 3. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The low-voltage 6th generation Core i7 runs cool during typical productivity tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing. Fan activity stays low in quiet rooms and the integrated graphics avoid the heat of a discrete GPU. The 1TB SATA M.2 SSD draws minimal power, helping the battery last through a standard workday. Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.0 ports add peripherals without a noticeable thermal penalty.

Behaviour under sustained load

During extended compiles, large spreadsheet calculations or back-to-back video conferences the processor maintains its base frequency while the cooling system manages a gradual temperature rise. Fan speed increases audibly but remains within office tolerance. The 16GB DDR4 ceiling limits very large datasets, and the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 will throttle frame rates in prolonged 3D workloads. Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth stays consistent for external storage or docks throughout the session.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB SATA M.2 SSD and what step is often missed?

The drive slides into the M.2 slot at a slight angle, then screws down; the step people miss is pressing it fully flat before tightening the screw, otherwise the connector does not seat.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered to the board, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced; the only later maintenance is keeping the system dust-free to avoid thermal throttling.

What limit appears first on the Intel HD Graphics 520 during sustained heavy workloads?

The integrated GPU shares system memory and hits its thermal ceiling quickly, causing clock-speed throttling that caps frame rates in long sessions.
