Ready-to-work 14-inch business laptop

The DELL Latitude 7490 ships with Windows 10 Pro, an Intel Core i7-8650U processor at 1.9 GHz, 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB SSD. The 14.0-inch 1920 x 1080 anti-glare panel is non-touch and uses shared system memory for Intel UHD Graphics 620. It suits professionals who need a lightweight, immediately usable machine for office applications and video calls.

Sustained-load thermal behaviour

Under continuous multi-core workloads the U-series processor will throttle to stay within its low-power envelope, so compile times and large spreadsheet recalculations run slower than on higher-wattage chips. The integrated GPU shares the same thermal budget and system RAM, limiting 3D or heavy video rendering to short bursts. Fan noise increases noticeably during prolonged heavy use.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Memory is maxed at 32 GB across two slots, so no further RAM upgrades are possible. The single HDMI 1.4 port drives one external display at up to 1920 x 1080; additional monitors require a USB-C dock or adapter. Only three USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A ports and one USB-C with DisplayPort alt-mode are available — verify peripheral count and connector types.

Questions about this item

Does the Intel Core i7-8650U and Intel UHD Graphics 620 combination run hot or loud during long work sessions?

The 1.9 GHz processor uses shared system memory for graphics, keeping the thermal design within the thin 0.69 inch chassis; fan noise stays low for typical office workloads.

Which cables or adapters must I already own to connect two external monitors?

The laptop provides one HDMI 1.4 port and DisplayPort over USB Type-C, so you need an HDMI cable and a USB-C to DisplayPort cable or adapter for the second screen.

Will my existing USB-A peripherals and wired network cable plug straight in?

Yes, three USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A ports and an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet jack are built in, so standard mice, keyboards, drives and network cables work without extra hubs.
