Dell Latitude 7490 purpose

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and eight threads. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The Full HD touchscreen and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 support daily office workflows and video calls.

Who it suits and who it does not

This unit suits mobile professionals who need a lightweight chassis with HDMI, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 PowerShare, three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and a microSD reader for presentations on the move. Buyers who want more storage capacity or a discrete graphics card for heavy 3D work should look at something else.

Sustained load behaviour

The 15 W quad-core CPU maintains its 1.9 GHz base clock during extended productivity sessions thanks to the slim thermal design. Integrated graphics share system memory, so prolonged video encoding or multiple external displays will reduce available RAM for other tasks. Fan noise rises gradually under continuous load rather than spiking in short bursts.

Questions about this item

What must I already own to power this Latitude 7490?

The laptop includes its charger and battery, so no separate power supply is required.

Will the single HDMI port drive my existing 1080p monitor?

Yes — the HDMI port outputs 1920 x 1080 Full HD, so any monitor or projector with an HDMI input will display the native resolution.

How can I confirm the touchscreen and webcam work after first boot?

Open the Camera app to verify the webcam image, then tap the Start button with a finger; if the menu opens, the 14" touchscreen is responding correctly.
