Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch Windows laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance in a compact chassis. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle everyday productivity tasks.

Upgrade from slower storage or dual-core systems

Replacing a hard-drive laptop or a dual-core ultrabook with this NVMe-equipped quad-core model cuts boot and application load times dramatically. The jump is worth it when your current machine stalls on multitasking, large spreadsheets or frequent travel workloads. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C adds high-speed dock and peripheral support for a modern desk setup.

Suits mobile workers needing legacy OS

This unit fits consultants, field staff and office hot-deskers who value a full-size HDMI port, Gigabit Ethernet, microSD reader and Windows 10 Home out of the box. Buyers who want more memory, a dedicated GPU, a touchscreen or Windows 11 pre-installed should look at a different configuration.

Questions about this item

What size M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD does the Latitude 7490 accept for a storage upgrade?

The laptop uses a 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; any standard 2280 M.2 NVMe drive will fit the slot.

How do I install Windows 11 on this unit that ships with Windows 10 Home, and what step is often missed?

Run the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, then enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in the BIOS — the step most people skip.

When will the 8GB DDR4 memory need to be replaced or expanded for heavier workloads?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; plan for a new device when multitasking regularly exceeds available memory.
