Latitude E6420 14.1" business laptop

The Dell Latitude E6420 is a 14.1-inch notebook built around a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2620M dual-core processor running at 2.70 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and a 1 TB 2.5-inch hard drive for local storage. The HD LED display delivers a 1366 x 768 resolution, and integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 handles visual output. This configuration targets professionals who need a traditional clamshell laptop with legacy ports and optical media support.

DVD-RW drive and TPM security chip

An internal DVD-RW drive lets you read and write CDs and DVDs without an external unit, which is useful for archiving older media or installing software from disc. A Trusted Platform Module security chip provides hardware-based encryption key storage, supporting drive encryption and platform integrity checks. The QM67 Express chipset underpins these features alongside Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless LAN and Gigabit Ethernet for wired connectivity. Together they extend the laptop’s usefulness in managed IT environments.

VGA and HDMI outputs with rugged chassis

The matte black slate chassis includes both VGA and HDMI video outputs, allowing direct connection to projectors or external monitors without adapters. A built-in webcam sits above the non-touch screen for video calls. The design omits a solid-state drive, so storage performance follows mechanical hard drive speeds. Buyers who want faster boot times or a lighter ultrabook form factor will need a different platform.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" 1TB hard drive need replacing for more speed or capacity later?

The 2.5" 1TB hard drive can be swapped for a larger mechanical drive or an SSD using the same 2.5" bay; the system supports up to 16 GB of DDR3 memory if you also want more RAM.

What limit appears first when the Core i7-2620M runs at full load for long periods?

The dual-core 2.70 GHz processor with Intel HD Graphics 3000 will hit its thermal ceiling before the 8 GB DDR3 or 1 TB drive become bottlenecks during sustained heavy workloads.

How loud and hot does the E6420 get when left on all day?

Under continuous use the cooling fan spins up audibly and the chassis near the vent becomes warm, while the 2.70 GHz CPU and integrated graphics draw enough power to keep the fan active most of the time.
