Rugged 14-inch workstation for field teams

Upgrade from standard business notebooks

This model replaces conventional office laptops when work takes you into dust, vibration, temperature extremes or wet conditions. The jump is worth it if your current chassis cannot survive drops, rain or sand, or if you need the removable PCIe storage bay and optional RJ-45, serial, VGA, DisplayPort or Fischer USB modules for legacy vehicle mounts.

Check power, dock and peripheral needs

Verify that your existing AC adapter matches the power-in jack and that any vehicle dock or port replicator aligns with the 347 mm width, 244.5 mm depth and 32.88 mm height. Confirm which optional I/O — second serial, VGA, DisplayPort or Fischer USB — your workflow requires, because the configuration is fixed at purchase.

Questions about this item

What are the exact width and depth measurements for the Latitude Rugged 5420 so I can confirm it fits my vehicle dock?

The chassis measures 13.66 inches wide by 9.63 inches deep, matching the 347 mm by 244.5 mm footprint listed for the 5420 Rugged.

How do I install the removable PCIe storage bay and what is the common mistake to avoid?

Slide the bay into the dedicated slot until the latch clicks; the step users miss is securing the retention screw that locks the drive in place for shock protection.

Which user-replaceable batteries does the 5420 Rugged use and how many can it hold?

It accepts up to two hot-swappable 3-cell batteries; the starting weight of 4.9 lbs assumes a single battery is installed.
