Ready-to-use office desktop

The DELL OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower arrives with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and includes a USB keyboard and mouse. An Intel 2nd Gen quad-core i5-2400 running at 3.10 GHz with four threads handles everyday office applications and web browsing. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 drives a single display without a separate card. Gigabit Ethernet and a Wi-Fi USB adapter provide network connectivity out of the box.

Memory capacity and type

The system ships with 4 GB of DDR3 desktop RAM installed in a 240-pin DIMM slot. DDR3 is the only memory generation this platform accepts; other DDR types will not fit. The motherboard supports upgrades to 8 GB or 16 GB total if more headroom is needed for multitasking. Buyers who need more memory than 16 GB or a newer DDR generation should consider a different platform.

Simple internal access

The Mini Tower case opens with a tool-less side panel giving direct access to the 3.5-inch 500 GB SATA hard drive, the 16X DVD±RW drive and the memory slots. A Phillips screwdriver is only required for securing drive brackets. The proprietary front-panel header layout can make aftermarket power-switch or LED cables difficult to connect, so reuse the original cables when swapping the chassis.
