OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower with i7-2600

The Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built around an Intel 2nd Gen Core i7-2600 quad-core processor running at 3.40 GHz with turbo boost up to 3.90 GHz. It ships with 4 GB of DDR3 memory, a 128 GB 2.5-inch solid-state drive and a 1 TB 3.5-inch hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed and a keyboard and mouse are included.

Home office users and students seeking

This system suits home office workers and students who need a complete Windows 10 Pro desktop with dual-drive storage and an optical drive for legacy media. Buyers who require more than 4 GB of memory out of the box, a discrete graphics card, or a smaller form factor should consider other configurations. The 265 W power supply and Mini Tower case also limit expansion options for high-power add-in cards.

4 GB DDR3 memory installed

The computer comes with 4 GB of DDR3 desktop RAM installed in a 240-pin DIMM slot. The manufacturer highlights that the platform supports upgrade options of 8 GB or 16 GB total. If your workload demands more memory immediately, plan to add modules at purchase.

Questions about this item

What interface limits the 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD speeds?

The drives connect through the motherboard storage interfaces of the OptiPlex 790, which set the practical throughput ceiling for both the 2.5" 128 GB solid state drive and the 3.5" 1 TB hard disk.

What physical space and power does the Mini Tower case provide for extra drives?

The Mini Tower chassis holds the existing 2.5" SSD and 3.5" HDD, leaving one spare 3.5" bay and one 5.25" bay; the 265 W power supply must cover any added devices.

How is the USB wireless dongle installed, and what step is often missed?

Plug the supplied USB dongle into a free USB port, then install the driver from Windows 10 Pro or the Dell support site; the step often missed is enabling the wireless adapter in Device Manager after the driver loads.
