1U rack server with ten-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 16 GB DDR4, H730 RAID controller, eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays and redundant 550 W power
Installed Memory Size 16GB
The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650v3 ten-core processor at 2.3GHz into a 1U chassis, delivering 20 virtual threads through hyper-threading. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory populate the 12 DIMM slots, with the platform supporting up to 384GB when a second CPU is added. It targets workloads that need high thread count in minimal rack space.
Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SAS or SATA media and connect to the Perc H730 controller with 1GB cache, enabling RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 without downtime. A single 550W hot-swap power supply provides redundancy, while two PCIe 3.0 slots and four 1GbE ports handle expansion and networking. The DVD-ROM and Matrox G200 video complete the baseline feature set.
The 1.68-inch height forces a directed airflow path that keeps the ten-core CPU and H730 controller within thermal limits under typical loads. Redundant power supply fans share the cooling burden, reducing individual fan speed and acoustic output. Power draw scales with processor utilisation and drive count, allowing the 550W unit to operate well within its capacity for most configurations.

Other versions of this model
Both slots are PCIe 3.0, so each x8 lane tops out at roughly 8 GB/s and an x16 card will run at x8 electrical speed.
The server is 26.7 inches deep and needs a compatible Dell sliding rail kit; the kit is not included and must be purchased separately.
The H730 ships pre-installed in the dedicated internal slot; the step people forget is cabling each of the eight 2.5" drive backplane connectors to the controller's mini-SAS ports.
