Precision 5530 2-in-1 Workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch convertible workstation with a 3840 x 2160 touchscreen. It runs an Intel Core i7-8706G quad-core processor, 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. Discrete AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 handle visual workloads. Windows 11 Pro is installed.

Upgrade from Integrated Graphics

This model replaces laptops that rely on integrated graphics for professional applications. The dedicated 4 GB GPU and Thunderbolt 3 ports make the jump worthwhile when you need hardware acceleration for 3D modelling, video editing or multi-display setups. Buyers who need more than 16 GB memory or a second GPU should look elsewhere.

1 TB NVMe and 16 GB RAM Headroom

The 1 TB NVMe drive and 16 GB DDR4 memory comfortably handle large project files, virtual machines and multi-app workflows. Memory is soldered with no free slots, so capacity cannot be expanded beyond 16 GB. The 65-watt adapter powers the system; sustained heavy GPU loads may throttle performance.

Questions about this item

What size SSD does the 5530 accept for a storage upgrade?

The system uses a 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 drive. The specifications list zero available memory slots and a 16GB maximum, so the M.2 slot is the only user-replaceable storage interface.

How do the two Thunderbolt 3 ports connect to external displays?

Each Thunderbolt 3 port carries DisplayPort 1.4 signalling; connect a compatible monitor or adapter directly. A common mistake is using a passive USB-C cable that lacks DisplayPort alt-mode, which delivers power but no video.

When will the 65-watt AC adapter need replacement?

Replace the 65-watt adapter if the barrel connector becomes loose, the cable frays near the brick, or the unit no longer maintains charge under load. Genuine Dell 65-watt units match the original voltage and PowerShare negotiation.
