Precision mobile workstation for CAD

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics with 6GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with 16GB DDR4 RAM and dual NVMe M.2 solid-state drives totalling 5TB of storage. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed for immediate professional use.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 set the external

A single Thunderbolt 3 port and one HDMI 2.0 output handle external monitors, limiting simultaneous high-resolution panels to two streams. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports provide standard peripheral bandwidth. The 72 percent colour gamut IPS panel covers common office workflows but falls short of wide-gamut print or video grading requirements.

Silver chassis with InfinityEdge display

The silver aluminium chassis houses a 17.3 inch FHD InfinityEdge IPS screen with Premier Panel Guarantee. Dual M.2 slots are occupied by the factory 1TB and 4TB drives, leaving no internal room for storage expansion. Quadro P3200 thermals are engineered for sustained CAD loads, while the included Dell AC adapter powers the full 6-core turbo envelope.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 1TB plus 4TB dual-drive layout or a single larger M.2 module?

The unit ships with two NVMe M.2 modules totalling 5TB — 1TB and 4TB — so the operating system and active projects can sit on the faster 1TB drive while archives and media libraries fill the 4TB volume.

What does the 2.20 GHz base and 4.10 GHz turbo on the i7-8750H mean for sustained workloads?

The six-core processor runs at 2.20 GHz under continuous load and can lift individual cores to 4.10 GHz for short bursts, giving strong single-thread response in CAD while keeping all six cores fed during rendering.

Does the Thunderbolt 3 port carry full PCIe bandwidth or is it limited to USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds?

The Thunderbolt 3 connection provides full 40 Gbit/s PCIe and DisplayPort signalling, while the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are capped at 5 Gbit/s for standard peripherals.
