Mobile workstation for CAD and 3D design

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor and an NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card with 6GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and targets engineers and designers who need certified driver stability for professional 3D applications. The IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut for accurate visual review.

16GB DDR4 memory and dual NVMe storage

The system includes 16GB of DDR4 RAM and two M.2 SSDs totalling 5TB — a 1TB drive plus a 4TB drive. This capacity handles large assemblies, point-cloud data and high-resolution textures without external drives. Memory is not user-expandable beyond the factory configuration, so buyers who need more RAM for simulation or rendering should consider a different platform.

Aluminium chassis with Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0

The silver chassis uses aluminium construction and offers two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port and one HDMI 2.0 output for external displays. A headphone/microphone combo jack handles audio. The layout supports dual-monitor docked workflows and fast peripheral transfers, while the non-touch FHD screen keeps weight and power draw lower than 4K alternatives.

Questions about this item

Will the 6-core i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 6 GB handle legacy CAD projects that ran on my older dual-core mobile workstation?

The six-core i7-8750H reaches 4.10 GHz turbo and the Quadro P3200 delivers 6 GB GDDR5, so older single-threaded CAD workloads run far faster than on a dual-core system.

How can I confirm the 17.3" FHD IPS panel and both NVMe drives are recognised after first boot?

Open Device Manager to verify the 1920 x 1080 IPS display and check Disk Management for the 1 TB and 4 TB M.2 volumes showing as healthy NTFS partitions.

Does the box include the Dell AC adapter and any video cables for the HDMI 2.0 or Thunderbolt 3 ports?

The Dell AC adapter is included; HDMI and Thunderbolt cables are not supplied and must be purchased separately.
