Floorstanding Speaker Pair

The Elac DFR52-BK is a floorstanding speaker sold individually, designed for stereo or home-theatre systems that demand full-range output from a single cabinet. Its three-way bass-reflex layout covers 42 Hz to 35 kHz, so listeners who want deep bass without a separate subwoofer will find the extension useful. The 6-ohm nominal impedance and 87 dB sensitivity allow pairing with a wide range of amplifiers. Buyers who need powered or wireless operation should look elsewhere.

Three-Way Driver Array

A 1-inch cloth-dome tweeter, a 5.25-inch aramid-fibre midrange and dual 5.25-inch aramid-fibre woofers handle the 90 Hz and 2.2 kHz crossover points. Cast chassis woofers and full-perimeter bracing stiffen the front baffle and reduce cabinet vibration. Dual flared slot ports lower port noise and increase bass output for improved dynamics. The CARB2-rated MDF cabinet measures 7.28 inches wide, 9.52 inches deep and 39.99 inches high, so adequate floor space is required.

Binding Posts And Grille

Five-way metal binding posts accept bare wire, spades or banana plugs for secure amplifier connection. A magnetic fabric grille attaches without visible fasteners, preserving the black front baffle and walnut side finish. No remote control or wireless streaming hardware is included, so source switching and volume remain at the amplifier. The speaker weighs 36.81 units and handles up to 140 W maximum power.

Questions about this item

How low does the 42 Hz bass extension actually go before the dual flared slot ports hit their limit?

The dual flared slot ports are tuned to extend usable output down to the rated 42 Hz, with the 140 W maximum power handling setting the practical ceiling for sustained low-frequency output.

What is the typical heat or noise from the cabinet when the speaker runs at 87 dB sensitivity all day?

The passive cabinet produces no fan noise or active heat; only the amplifier generates warmth, while the CARB2-rated MDF and enhanced bracing keep cabinet vibration and colouration low during extended play.

Which amplifier specs are needed to drive the 6-ohm nominal impedance and 140 W max power safely?

An amplifier rated for 6-ohm loads and capable of delivering up to 140 W per channel into that impedance will match the speaker's maximum power handling without risk of clipping or overheating.
