What the splitter does

This 3.5 mm Y splitter takes a single male plug and provides two female ports so two pairs of headphones can listen to the same source. It works with phones, tablets, laptops and other devices that use a standard 3.5 mm stereo jack. The connector housing is slim enough to fit through most protective cases without removal. Buyers who need more than two outputs or a different connector type will not be served by this adapter.

Thermals noise and power

The splitter is a passive cable assembly with no active electronics, so it generates no heat and draws no power from the host device. There are no fans, no circuitry and no audible noise of any kind during normal use. Signal passes straight through the gold-plated contacts without amplification or processing. Users who require powered distribution or signal boosting must look elsewhere.

Behaviour under sustained load

Because the device is entirely passive, its performance does not change no matter how long audio plays. The 20 cm cable length keeps the two listening positions close to the source, and the CTIA wiring standard maintains microphone and remote functions on compatible headsets. No thermal throttling, voltage drop or latency increase can occur. Installations that need longer runs or rack-mounted distribution should choose a different solution.

Questions about this item

How do I plug the 3.5mm male end into my phone without removing the case?

The metal connector housing is slim enough to fit through most phone case openings, so you insert the single 3.5mm plug directly into the device jack while the case stays on.

Will the gold-plated contacts need cleaning or replacement over time?

Gold resists oxidation, so the contacts rarely need cleaning; if audio crackles, a quick blast of contact cleaner restores the connection.

At what cable length does signal loss become noticeable?

At the supplied 20 cm length there is no audible loss; extending much beyond 3 m with passive splitters can start to reduce volume and clarity.
