Business-ready 2-in-1

The HP Elite x2 1012 G2 is a 12.3-inch detachable tablet that runs Windows 10 Pro on a 7th-Gen Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor. It includes 16 GB of LPDDR3 memory and a 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The WQXGA+ IPS touchscreen delivers 2736 x 1824 resolution at 268 ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles visuals.

Keyboard and pen included

A backlit travel keyboard and an HP Active Pen ship in the box, turning the tablet into a laptop-style device and enabling pressure-sensitive inking. The display supports multi-touch gestures built into Windows 10 Pro. Connectivity covers 802.11ac Wi-Fi (2x2) and Bluetooth with vPro support. Ports include USB Type-C with Thunderbolt for high-speed data and video output.

Simple detachable setup

The tablet snaps onto the keyboard magnetically and releases with a latch, so switching modes takes seconds. Driver installation is handled by Windows 10 Pro out of the box. The main limitation is the fixed 16 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, which cannot be upgraded later. Buyers who need more memory or a larger drive should consider a different chassis.

Questions about this item

Does the 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD support user replacement if it fails?

The 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD is a standard form factor and can be replaced by a technician, though opening the sealed tablet chassis requires care to avoid damaging the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 display or the 16 GB LPDDR3 memory soldered to the board.

Will the Intel Core i5-7300U hit its thermal limit before the 3.5 GHz turbo can be sustained?

Under sustained heavy load the dual-core i5-7300U typically reaches its thermal ceiling first, causing clocks to settle near the 2.6 GHz base rather than holding the 3.5 GHz boost, while the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 shares the same cooling envelope.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel during an all-day video-call workload?

The fan spins up to an audible but low whine when the i5-7300U and Intel HD Graphics 620 push the 450 cd/m² display and 5 MP front camera continuously; the magnesium chassis warms to the touch around the rear vent but stays within comfortable limits for lap use.
