Business-ready ultraportable with high memory

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0" FHD notebook built for professionals who need reliable Windows 11 Pro performance in a silver aluminium chassis. It combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB PCIe M.2 SSD for responsive multitasking and fast boot times. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday business visuals and external displays via the USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort functionality.

Suited for mobile office work.

This configuration suits travelling executives, remote workers and IT-managed fleets that value vPro manageability, HP Sure Start BIOS protection and a compact 14-inch form factor. Buyers who need discrete graphics power for 3D rendering, video editing or modern gaming should look elsewhere, as the integrated GPU is limited to office and light creative workloads. The non-touch screen and lack of an optical drive also mean it is not aimed at users who require pen input or legacy media support.

32 GB DDR4 in dual-channel layout

The memory specification lists 16 GB x 2 modules, giving 32 GB total in a dual-channel configuration that maximises bandwidth for the integrated graphics and multitasking headroom. This is the key figure to verify against your workload; if your applications demand more than 32 GB or require user-upgradable slots beyond the factory configuration, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Is the 32 GB DDR4 memory sufficient for heavy multitasking and virtual machines?

The 32 GB DDR4 RAM (16 GB x 2) handles heavy multitasking and multiple virtual machines comfortably, leaving headroom for large datasets and background services.

What does the i7-8650U’s 4.2 GHz turbo speed mean for everyday workloads?

The quad-core i7-8650U runs at a 1.9 GHz base and boosts to 4.2 GHz on short bursts, so single-threaded tasks like spreadsheet recalculation or app launch feel snappy while sustained loads settle at lower clocks.

What can the USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort functionality actually drive?

The USB Type-C ports carry DisplayPort video, allowing you to connect an external monitor or dock without a separate video cable, while also providing USB 3.0 data speeds for peripherals.
