Purpose-built workhorse

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with a base clock of 1.9 GHz and turbo up to 4.2 GHz. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks. It ships with 16 GB DDR4 memory in an 8 GB x 2 configuration and a 1 TB PCIe M.2 SSD, running Windows 10 Pro out of the box.

Ready-to-deploy configuration

The dual-channel 16 GB DDR4 kit and 1 TB PCIe M.2 SSD remove the need for immediate memory or storage upgrades. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and activated, so the system is ready for domain join and enterprise management tools. A front-facing webcam supports video calls without extra peripherals. The non-touch FHD panel keeps power draw low for mobile use.

Silver aluminium chassis and daily connectivity

The silver aluminium unibody provides a rigid, professional feel suited to frequent travel. A 14.0-inch 1920 x 1080 non-touch display balances screen real estate and portability. Connectivity includes a pair of USB 3.0 ports, USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort functionality, a headphone jack, Intel dual-band wireless with Bluetooth 4.1 and Gigabit Ethernet. No optical drive is fitted, keeping weight down for mobile professionals who rely on cloud and USB media.

Questions about this item

Can the 16 GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later?

The system uses two 8 GB DDR4 modules and supports up to 32 GB total, so both slots can be replaced with higher-capacity sticks.

What limits sustained performance of the i7-8650U?

The 15 W quad-core processor relies on passive thermal throttling under continuous load, so clock speeds drop once the cooling solution saturates.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G5 get during all-day use?

Fan noise stays low during typical office workloads; the chassis warms near the rear vent but remains comfortable for lap use.
