A 1U rack server with dual 10-core Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors at 2.3 GHz, 16 GB DDR4, two 500 GB SATA drives and B140i software RAID
Installed Memory Size 16GB
HDD 2 x 500GB
The HP ProLiant DL160 G9 is a 1U rack server built for dense compute environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors, each providing ten cores at 2.3 GHz, and 16 GB of DDR4 memory across 16 DIMM slots. The chassis includes eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with two 500 GB SATA drives and a B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, and 5. Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies are fitted as standard.
This server fits workloads that benefit from 20 physical cores and 40 threads within a single rack unit. The B140i controller only manages SATA drives, so arrays requiring hardware RAID or SAS connectivity must look elsewhere. Buyers who want more storage than two 500 GB drives provide will need to populate the remaining six bays themselves. No operating system is included, so software licensing is a separate step.
The onboard B140i controller handles RAID 0, 1, and 5 exclusively for SATA devices. SAS drives are not supported on this controller, which determines which drive types can be used for boot or data volumes.
The platform supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 ECC registered memory using all 16 slots, with speeds up to 2400 MT/s depending on the installed processors. Current configuration uses 16 GB, leaving significant headroom for memory-intensive applications.

Other versions of this model
Enter the BIOS or iLO interface on boot; both processors should show 10 cores each at 2.3GHz with hyper-threading giving 40 logical threads, and the memory section must report 16GB DDR4 registered ECC across the 16 DIMM slots.
The unit includes two 500GB 7.2K 2.5″ SATA enterprise drives with trays, a B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, and a single 550W hot-swap power supply; a second redundant supply, extra drive trays or a universal media bay are not included.
Start with the factory 16GB if the workload fits; each processor owns eight slots, so populate in matched pairs of 32GB or 64GB DDR4-2400 registered ECC DIMMs per CPU to scale toward the 1TB limit without mixing capacities.
