HPE 12TB SAS control module

The HPE 868210-001 is a new 12TB SAS control module designed for server environments. It uses a 3.5 inch form factor and operates at 7.2k rotational speed with a 12Gbps interface. The 512e sector format ensures compatibility with legacy and modern systems. This component suits administrators expanding storage capacity in supported HPE platforms.

Capacity and headroom for 12TB workloads

The 12TB capacity handles large datasets, backup repositories and archival workloads comfortably. The 7.2k speed and SAS 12Gbps link provide steady throughput for sequential access patterns. Random I/O performance and sustained write-heavy workloads may reach the limits of the mechanical design. Buyers needing higher IOPS or lower latency should consider alternative storage technologies.

Questions about this item

Will the 12TB 7.2k SAS drive operate reliably on my existing 6Gbps backplane?

The drive negotiates link speed automatically, so it will run at 6Gbps on a 6Gbps backplane without configuration changes

How do I confirm the 512e sector format is active after installation?

Check the logical sector size reported by your OS disk utility or RAID controller; it should show 512 bytes per sector
