Tiny desktop for office workloads

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q is a micro-form-factor desktop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor running at 3.20 GHz with turbo up to 4.60 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 UDIMM memory, a 256 GB M.2 SSD for the operating system and a 1 TB hard drive for bulk storage. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Replacing a bulky tower

This unit replaces a traditional tower when desk space is limited and the workload consists of office applications, web browsing and light multitasking. The jump from a dual-core or quad-core system to the six-core i7-8700 is worth it when users regularly run several browser tabs, spreadsheets and video calls at once. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles standard business displays without a discrete card.

Fits a minimalist setup with room for expansion

The tiny chassis accepts DDR4 UDIMM modules up to the platform limit of 32 GB and already uses a dual-drive M.2 plus 2.5-inch layout. A DVD-ROM drive is built in for legacy media. Wireless connectivity comes via an included USB 5 GHz-capable dongle, leaving internal slots free. The 65 W processor keeps thermal demands modest for the compact case.

Questions about this item

What physical space and mounting options does the Micro (MFF) case require?

The Tiny desktop uses a Micro (MFF) chassis designed for VESA mounting behind a monitor or placement on a desk; its compact footprint fits in tight workspaces without a separate tower shelf.

How is the USB Wi-Fi/BT dongle installed, and what step is often missed?

Plug the supplied USB dongle into any free USB port, then install the driver from Windows Update or the Lenovo support site — the step often missed is enabling the 5 GHz band in the adapter properties after driver installation.

What storage upgrades are supported later, and what memory limit applies?

The M.2 slot accepts a 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS drive) and the 2.5-inch bay holds the 1 TB HDD; DDR4 memory can be expanded up to 32 GB using UDIMM modules.
