ThinkCentre M720s business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around a six-core Intel Core i5 8500 running at 3.0 GHz with 9 MB L3 cache. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 2 TB NVMe PCIe SSD for fast boot and application loading. Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles display output through one VGA and two DisplayPort connectors. The unit includes Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and a power cord only.

Thermals noise and 65 W processor power

The i5 8500 carries a 65 W thermal design power, so the compact chassis and its internal fan manage heat without the airflow demands of a full-size tower. Under typical office workloads the system runs quietly enough for open-plan environments. Gigabit Ethernet provides wired network connectivity, while the absence of a wireless card keeps the internal layout simple and power draw predictable.

Single USB-C port and dual DisplayPort output

One USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port and six USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports give flexible peripheral connectivity, while two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports add higher bandwidth for external storage. Dual DisplayPort outputs enable a two-monitor setup without adapters. No keyboard, mouse, speakers or Wi-Fi adapter are included, so buyers who need wireless networking or a complete desktop bundle must source those separately.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB NVMe drive, and what step is often missed?

The M720s uses an M.2 slot for the NVMe SSD; the step people miss is removing the single retention screw before inserting the drive at an angle and securing it again.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

DDR4 modules require no scheduled maintenance; if capacity becomes limiting, add matching DDR4 sticks up to the board's supported maximum.

Which limit appears first during sustained loads on the i5-8500 65W processor?

The 65W thermal envelope is reached before the 3.0 GHz all-core turbo can be held indefinitely, so the CPU throttles to stay within its power limit.
