Compact SFF desktop for business workloads

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor with 12 MB cache and a 4.60 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 3.5" 1 TB hard drive, running Windows 10 Pro out of the box. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles everyday visual tasks without a discrete card.

Included peripherals and connectivity

A USB keyboard and USB mouse are supplied in the box so the system is ready to deploy immediately. Wireless connectivity comes via a USB dongle capable of 5 GHz operation, and a DVD-ROM drive provides legacy media access. No monitor is included, allowing buyers to choose their own display.

Memory and storage headroom

The 32 GB DDR4 configuration suits multi-application office workloads and light virtualization without paging. The single 1 TB hard drive offers ample capacity for documents and local backups, though sustained throughput is limited by mechanical speeds. Buyers needing faster boot times or a second drive would need to add solid-state storage separately.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5" 1TB hard drive need replacement before other parts?

Mechanical drives typically wear out before solid-state components; the 3.5" 1TB unit here is the most likely candidate for future replacement.

What limits sustained performance of the i7-8700 at 65W?

The 65W thermal design power caps extended high-frequency operation; the CPU will throttle to stay within that envelope under continuous load.

How loud and hot does the SFF chassis get running all day?

The small-form-factor case relies on a compact cooler for the 65W processor; expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust during prolonged workloads.
