Compact Business Desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s SFF desktop PC uses an Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor running at 3.0 GHz up to 4.10 GHz with a 65 W TDP. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive arrangement of 128 GB M.2 SSD plus 1 TB SSD. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed along with a USB keyboard and mouse. This configuration suits office workers who need responsive multitasking in a small-form-factor chassis.

Thermals and Acoustics

The 65 W processor and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 keep heat output modest inside the SFF enclosure. A single optical drive bay and dual solid-state storage produce no mechanical drive noise. Under typical office loads the system runs quietly without requiring additional cooling headroom. Power draw remains within the rated 65 W envelope for the CPU.

Build Integration

The compact SFF case fits on or under a desk while leaving PCIe slots free for expansion cards. Four DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 32 GB total memory for future upgrades. Included USB Wi-Fi dongle and Bluetooth handle wireless connectivity without occupying internal slots. DVD-ROM provides legacy media access. Buyers who need discrete graphics or more than two storage drives should consider a larger tower platform.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 16 GB DDR4 module in the SFF case, and which step do people get wrong?

Open the side panel, align the notch on the 240-pin DDR4 DIMM with the slot key, press firmly until both retention clips click; the step often missed is fully seating both ends so the clips engage automatically.

What maintenance or replacement will the 128 GB M.2 plus 1 TB SSD storage need later?

Both solid-state drives have no moving parts, so no mechanical maintenance is required; replacement is only needed if a drive fails or you want more than the current 128 GB and 1 TB capacities.

What limit appears first when the Intel Core i5-8500 runs at 4.10 GHz under sustained load?

The 65 W processor power limit is reached first, causing the CPU to throttle from its maximum turbo frequency to stay within its thermal design envelope.
