Compact SFF desktop for office workloads

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor business PC powered by an 8th-generation Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor running at 3.0 GHz up to 4.1 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory, a 512 GB M.2 SSD for the operating system and a 1 TB hard drive for bulk storage, plus Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. A USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Fits tight spaces and adds wireless

The SFF chassis occupies minimal desk depth and includes a 5 GHz-capable USB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle for cable-free connectivity. Intel UHD Graphics 630 drives up to two displays through the onboard video outputs, while the DVD-ROM handles legacy media. No discrete graphics card is present, so the single PCIe slot remains free for other expansion cards.

Steady throughput for daily tasks

The 65 W processor maintains its 3.0 GHz base clock across sustained workloads such as large spreadsheets, video conferencing and background backups without thermal throttling. DDR4 memory bandwidth and the dual-drive layout keep read-write latency low during prolonged file operations. Integrated graphics share system memory, so extended 3D rendering is not a suitable use case.

Questions about this item

Will the 65 W Intel Core i5-8500 throttle under sustained multi-core load?

The processor is rated at 65 W and can boost up to 4.10 GHz, so the small-form-factor cooler is designed around that thermal envelope.

How loud is the system fan when the desktop runs all day?

The SFF chassis uses a low-profile fan tuned for the 65 W CPU; under typical office workloads it stays in a quiet range.

Does the included USB Wi-Fi dongle need a free USB port on the PC?

Yes, the wireless adapter plugs into any standard USB port, which the M720s provides on front and rear panels.
