Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around an Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor running at 3.20 GHz with a 4.60 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory, a 2.5-inch 128 GB solid-state drive, and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. A DVD-ROM drive, USB keyboard, and USB mouse are included in the box.

Office users versus expandability needs

This system suits office workers who need a quiet, space-saving PC for productivity applications, web browsing, and video conferencing with the supplied Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle. Buyers who want more storage or memory than the 128 GB SSD and 8 GB provided should look elsewhere, as the compact chassis and proprietary layout restrict internal upgrades.

65 W hexa-core CPU

The defining specification is the Intel Core i7-8700 processor with six cores, twelve threads, 12 MB cache, and a 65 W thermal design power. This CPU delivers strong single- and multi-threaded performance for business workloads while fitting the small-form-factor power and cooling envelope.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Intel Core i7-8700 is reaching its 4.60 GHz turbo speed after setup?

Open Windows Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose CPU and watch the live clock speed while running a demanding task; it should show values approaching 4.60 GHz when thermal headroom allows.

Which items are included in the box and what must I purchase separately?

The box contains the ThinkCentre M720s SFF chassis, 8 GB DDR4 UDIMM, 2.5" 128 GB SSD, DVD-ROM drive, USB keyboard, USB mouse, a 5 GHz-capable USB Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle and Windows 10 Pro; a monitor is not included.

Should I choose the 8 GB DDR4 / 128 GB SSD configuration or look for a larger memory and storage option?

The 8 GB DDR4 and 128 GB SSD suit light office work and web browsing; if you plan heavier multitasking or larger local files, select a configuration with up to 32 GB DDR4 and additional 2.5" or M.2 drive capacity.
