Compact Business Desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around a six-core Intel Core i5-8500 running at 3.0 GHz with 9 MB L3 cache. It ships with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD for fast boot and application loading. Intel UHD Graphics 630 drives dual DisplayPort outputs and a VGA port. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Thermals and Power Draw

The processor carries a 65 W TDP, which the slim chassis and internal fan manage during typical office workloads such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing. Power consumption stays close to that rating under normal multitasking. Acoustic output remains low enough for quiet open-plan or home-office environments.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under prolonged heavy compute tasks the six cores maintain their 3.0 GHz base frequency within the 65 W envelope, so performance does not throttle sharply after a short burst. The NVMe SSD sustains high throughput for large file transfers or database work without thermal slowdown. Integrated graphics handle extended multi-monitor use but are not suited for 3D rendering or gaming workloads.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD into the M720s small form factor chassis?

The 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD is already fitted as the primary drive; no installation is required unless you add a second M.2 module, in which case remove the side panel, locate the M.2 slot, insert the drive at an angle and secure it with the single screw.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR4 memory need over time?

The 16GB DDR4 is soldered or slotted with no moving parts; only dust removal from the memory area during occasional case cleaning is needed, and no scheduled replacement is required.

At what point does the 65W i5-8500 hit its thermal limit during sustained loads?

The 65W six-core i5-8500 will throttle when its package temperature reaches the Intel maximum junction limit, which is the first constraint under continuous heavy workloads in the small form factor cooling envelope.
