Small-form-factor business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a compact desktop built for office environments that need reliable everyday computing. Its 6-core Intel Core i5-8500 processor runs at 3.0 GHz with 9 MB L3 cache and a 65 W thermal design, paired with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed on the system.

Sustained-load thermal behaviour

The 65 W processor and air-cooling solution are sized for typical business workloads such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing. Under continuous multi-threaded demand the CPU will operate within its base frequency envelope, and the small chassis relies on its internal fan layout to maintain stable temperatures without throttling during normal office hours.

Connectivity and display limits

The rear I/O provides one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, six USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports for peripherals. Video output is handled by Intel UHD Graphics 630 through one VGA connector and two DisplayPort outputs, supporting dual-monitor setups at common business resolutions. Network access is limited to Gigabit Ethernet; no wireless card is fitted.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the i5-8500 at 65 W get under all-day load?

The 65 W processor uses air cooling in a small chassis; expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust during sustained heavy work.

Which display cable do I need for the dual DisplayPort outputs?

Two DisplayPort cables are required to use both video outputs; none are included with the desktop.

Will my legacy VGA monitor work alongside a modern DisplayPort screen?

Yes, the single VGA port and two DisplayPort connectors can drive two monitors simultaneously, mixing analogue and digital displays.
