What this laptop is and who it fits

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0" FHD touchscreen ultrabook running Windows 11 Pro. It carries an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U quad-core processor at 1.6GHz with 6MB L2 cache, 8GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. Connectivity includes 3 x USB 3.1 ports, 1 x USB-C, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. An OEM 45/65W AC adapter is included.

The spec that decides fit

The 512GB SSD is the single figure that determines whether this unit matches the workload. It is a fixed capacity with no secondary drive bay mentioned, so the buyer must be comfortable fitting the operating system, applications and active project files within that space. If the workflow demands a larger local library or dual-drive redundancy, this configuration will not satisfy it.

Capacity and headroom

8GB DDR4 handles typical office suites, browser-based tools and light multitasking without paging. The quad-core i5-8250U and UHD 620 decode 1080p video and drive the touchscreen smoothly for productivity tasks. Heavy compiles, virtual machines or large creative assets will exhaust the 8GB ceiling and the 512GB volume quickly, making this unit unsuitable for those workloads.

Questions about this item

How does the 1.6 GHz quad-core i5-8250U perform in everyday multitasking?

The 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U has four cores and a 6 MB L2 cache, with 8 GB DDR4, so it handles office apps, web browsing and video playback smoothly.

What external displays can the USB-C 3.1 and HDMI ports drive?

The HDMI port and USB-C 3.1 port both support external monitors; the internal panel is 1920 x 1080 IPS, so that resolution is native.

Will the 14-inch chassis accept a second M.2 drive?

The unit ships with a single 512 GB SSD; the spec sheet lists only one M.2 slot, so a second drive cannot be added internally.
