14-inch touchscreen ultrabook

This Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch Full HD touchscreen laptop powered by an 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 4.1, HDMI, two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and two USB Type-C ports supporting Power Delivery and DisplayPort.

Mobile professionals needing pen or touch input

The 14.0-inch IPS touchscreen and 1.9 GHz quad-core CPU suit office work, video calls and light content creation on the move. Buyers who require a discrete graphics processor for 3D rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. Users who need more than 8 GB of system memory for virtual machines or large datasets must choose a different configuration. The integrated graphics also limit external monitor support to the outputs provided.

8 GB soldered DDR4 memory

The 8 GB of DDR4 RAM is not upgradeable, so the total system memory is fixed at 8 GB. This single specification decides whether the laptop can handle your workload without paging. Storage uses a 512 GB M.2 SSD that can be replaced, but the memory capacity cannot be increased after purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512 GB NVME SSD and what step is often missed?

The drive fits the M.2 slot; the step often missed is enabling the NVME option in BIOS so the drive appears as a boot device.

What maintenance will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded; the only later action is a clean OS reinstall if performance degrades.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the i7-8650U?

The 4.20 GHz turbo drops to the base 1.90 GHz once the cooling reaches its thermal ceiling.
