14" FHD IPS touchscreen Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14 inch Full HD IPS touchscreen Ultrabook running Windows 11 Pro. It uses an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad core processor with 6 MB L2 cache and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system includes 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a 512 GB SSD. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 4.1, HDMI, two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and two USB Type C ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort.

Business users needing pen and touch input

Professionals who want a lightweight 14 inch chassis with a 1920 x 1080 touchscreen for annotation, presentations or tablet mode will fit this device. Buyers who need discrete graphics for rendering, gaming or GPU compute should look elsewhere. Anyone requiring more than 16 GB memory or multiple internal storage drives will not be served by this configuration.

512 GB SSD single drive capacity

The 512 GB solid state drive is the only internal storage supplied, so the purchase decision rests on whether that capacity covers the operating system, applications and active project files. If the workload demands a larger or secondary drive, this unit cannot meet the requirement without external storage.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512 GB SSD in the M.2 slot and what step is often missed?

Insert the drive at an angle, press it flat, and secure it with the single retention screw; the step often missed is enabling the NVME or SATA mode in BIOS so the drive appears at boot.

Which components will need replacement first during the laptop's life?

The internal 16 GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not replaceable; the 512 GB SSD and the two batteries (internal and hot-swappable) are the only user-serviceable parts that typically wear out.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads?

The Intel Core i5-8350U hits its 3.60 GHz turbo ceiling and then throttles to 1.70 GHz base clock once the cooling solution saturates, capping sustained performance.
