Portable performance for mobile professionals

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16 GB DDR4 memory in a 14.0 inch silver ultrabook. It targets executives and frequent travellers who need full Windows 10 Pro capability without the bulk of a traditional workstation. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

1 TB SSD capacity with 16 GB memory headroom

A 1 TB solid-state drive provides ample space for large project files, local databases and media libraries while maintaining fast boot and application load times. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 RAM keeps dozens of browser tabs, Office suites and virtual machines responsive. The non-touch 1920 x 1080 IPS panel delivers crisp output for document work.

USB 3.1 Gen1 and USB Type-C connectivity limits

Two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports (one always-on) and two USB Type-C ports supporting Power Delivery, DisplayPort and data transfer cover most peripherals and external displays. Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 4.1 handle wireless networking and accessories. The integrated graphics and 60 Hz panel make this laptop unsuitable for buyers who need high-refresh gaming or colour-critical creative work.

Questions about this item

Will the 14.0" FHD IPS panel and Intel UHD Graphics 620 drive an older 1920 x 1080 monitor over HDMI without scaling issues?

The HDMI port supports 1920 x 1080 output, so an older Full HD monitor will run at its native resolution with the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620.

How can I confirm the i7-8650U is hitting its 4.20 GHz turbo and the 16 GB DDR4 is running at full speed after setup?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab to watch the CPU clock reach 4.20 GHz under load and verify the memory shows 16 GB DDR4 at its rated frequency.

Does the box include a USB-C power adapter and video dongle, or must I buy them separately?

The package contains the laptop and its USB-C power adapter; any HDMI-to-VGA or USB-C-to-DisplayPort dongles for legacy monitors are sold separately.
