Ultra-slim portable DVD writer

The LG GP65NG60 is a gold-coloured external optical drive that reads and writes CDs and DVDs over a USB 2.0 connection. It measures 0.60 by 5.40 by 5.60 inches and stands 14 mm high, making it suited to mobile users who need disc access without an internal bay.

Replaces an internal optical drive

The unit upgrades laptops or compact desktops that lack a built-in burner, adding 8× DVD±R and 24× CD-R write speeds plus M-DISC support for long-term archival. The jump is worth it when you need to create installation media, back up photos or play legacy discs on hardware that omitted an optical bay.

Fits a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port

A single cable supplies both data and power, so no external adapter is required and one port is freed for other peripherals. The 768 KB buffer helps sustain steady burns, while Mac and Surface compatibility broadens the range of hosts you can connect to.

Questions about this item

What are the exact dimensions of the GP65NG60 so I can check if it fits my bag?

The drive measures 0.60 inches high, 5.40 inches wide and 5.60 inches deep with a 14 mm ultra-slim profile.

How do I install the GP65NG60 and what is the common mistake to avoid?

Connect the USB 2.0 cable to a USB 3.0 or 2.0 port; the drive is bus-powered so using an unpowered hub often causes write failures.

When will the laser or mechanism need replacement on the GP65NG60?

Optical drives have no scheduled service interval; the mechanism lasts until read or write errors appear on verified discs.
