The LUOM 5RCA RGB to HDMI adapter translates analogue component video and stereo audio into a single HDMI signal. It accepts YPbPr or RGB sources such as a DVD player or an Xbox 360 and drives an HDMI display at up to 1080P resolution. The box includes the converter, a 5 V DC power supply and a user manual.

Behaviour under sustained use

The unit runs from the supplied AC adapter so it does not draw power from the source device. Video amplifier bandwidth is rated at 1.65 Gbps, supporting input formats of 480P at 60 Hz, 576P at 50 Hz, 720P at 50 or 60 Hz and 1080P at 50 or 60 Hz. Audio passes through as two-channel LPCM and the converter also carries bitstream formats such as DTS Digital and Dolby Digital including their high-definition variants. The signal path is one-way from component to HDMI only.

Installing and common pitfalls

Installation is plug-and-play with no software required. Connect the five RCA cables to the source, attach the HDMI cable to the display and power the converter. The most frequent issue is a resolution mismatch: the source and the display must be set to the same output format for the link to establish. The adapter cannot accept composite RCA video, so a yellow-video-only source will not work.
