What it does

The LUOM OZV8-1A extracts audio from an HDMI source and sends it to an amplifier, soundbar or speaker through optical SPDIF or 3.5 mm analogue outputs. It passes the video signal onward to a display at up to 4K resolution while allowing the audio system to stay on when the screen is off. The unit includes a digital optical cable, HDMI cable and USB power adapter in the box.

Sustained operation

Rated at 18 Gbps bandwidth, the extractor maintains a stable 4K 60 Hz signal with HDCP 2.2 and HDR 10 during long viewing sessions. Three selectable audio modes — TV, 2.0 CH and 5.1 CH — let you match the output to your sound system without reconfiguration. The metal enclosure dissipates heat passively so performance does not throttle over extended use.

Deciding specification

It does not decode Dolby Digital Plus, so any source that only outputs that format will fall back to stereo or require a different extractor. If your Blu-ray player, game console or streaming device relies on Dolby Digital Plus for surround sound, this model cannot pass the multichannel audio to your receiver.
