Tool-free transparent enclosure accepts M.2 SATA SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes and connects via USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C at up to 5 Gbps
This LUOM enclosure accepts M.2 SATA drives in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths up to 2 TB. A tool-free mechanism lets you install a drive in under three minutes. The transparent housing shows the installed module at a glance. It connects via USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C and includes both Type-C and USB-A cables for broad host compatibility with Windows, Linux and macOS.
An aluminium alloy plate on one side of the PCB works with copper bars and thermal pads to draw heat away from the drive. The JMS580 controller manages power draw through the USB 3.1 Gen 1 link, which tops out at 5 Gbps. No fan is fitted, so operation stays silent during typical file transfers and backups.
The JMS580 bridge enables UASP and Trim, which help maintain consistent throughput and drive health on supported operating systems. The box supplies a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB-A to Type-C cable, so you can plug into modern or legacy ports without buying extra leads. The enclosure does not support NVME, M-key, M&B-key or mSATA modules.

Slide the SSD into the M.2 slot at a slight angle, press it down, and secure it with the tool-free latch; the step often missed is confirming the drive is a B-key SATA model — NVMe M-key drives will not work.
The thermal pads on the aluminium plate and the copper bars on the PCB should be inspected periodically; if they become brittle or lose contact, replace them to keep the 2230-2280 drive cool.
The USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface caps sustained throughput at 5 Gbps, so even a fast SATA SSD will hit that ceiling before the JMS580 controller or thermal limits become a factor.
