Compact desktop speakers for critical listening

The Monolith MM-5 is a pair of powered multimedia speakers built for desktop audiophile performance. Each enclosure delivers 100 watts of class AB bi-amplification driving a 1in silk dome tweeter and a 5.25in polypropylene woofer. The slotted rear bass port extends low-frequency response down to 42Hz for spacious, punchy sound from a small footprint.

Verify your source outputs and desk space

Before ordering, confirm your computer or source device provides RCA, 3.5mm stereo, optical S/PDIF or USB digital outputs to match the speaker inputs. Wireless streaming requires a Bluetooth 5 source with aptX HD support for full codec benefit. Ensure the rear bass port has clearance from walls and that the master speaker can reach a mains outlet for power.

Thermal and acoustic behaviour in daily use

Class AB bi-amplification runs warm during extended listening sessions, so leave ventilation space around the rear panel. The front-panel headphone jack allows instant private listening without speaker bleed. At typical desktop volumes the system stays quiet, while the 42Hz port tuning keeps bass controlled rather than boomy in near-field position.

Questions about this item

What cables and accessories come with the Monolith MM-5 speakers and what must I buy separately?

The pair includes the active speaker with built-in amplification, the passive speaker, a speaker cable to link them, a remote control, and a power cord. No RCA, 3.5 mm, optical or USB cables are supplied, so purchase those separately for wired sources.

Should I use the Bluetooth 5 aptX HD connection or the USB digital input for the best quality from my computer?

Both deliver high-resolution audio. The USB input acts as a DAC and avoids any wireless compression, while Bluetooth 5 with aptX HD gives convenient lossless-quality streaming from compatible devices. Choose USB for a permanent desk setup or Bluetooth for flexibility.

How low does the 42 Hz bass extension actually reach in a typical room?

The ported enclosure is rated to 42 Hz, so you will hear deep bass fundamentals from electronic music, film effects and double-bass notes without a separate subwoofer. Room placement near a wall can reinforce the low end further.
