What it is and who it's for

This OLYCOM Lightning to 3.5 mm audio adapter lets you connect standard 3.5 mm headphones to iPhone models that lack a built-in headphone jack. It is MFi certified for full compatibility with iPhone 8 Plus through iPhone 14 Pro Max, plus compatible iPod touch and iPad models. The aluminium alloy shell and nylon-braided cable are built for daily carry.

Limits of the Lightning audio interface

The adapter supports digital audio output up to 48 kHz at 24-bit resolution through the Lightning port. It does not work with iPad mini 6 or any iPad Pro that uses a USB-C connector instead of Lightning. In-line remote and microphone functions are passed through, but the dongle cannot add features the source device does not already provide.

Installation and common issues

Simply plug the Lightning end into the device and the 3.5 mm plug into your headphones; no driver or app setup is required. The most frequent problem is debris in the Lightning port preventing a secure click, which causes intermittent sound. A bent or frayed cable near the strain relief can also break the connection over time.

Questions about this item

Which Lightning-to-3.5mm version should I pick for my iPhone model?

This single grey adapter is MFi certified and works with every Lightning iPhone from the 8 Plus through the 14 Pro Max, plus compatible iPod touch and iPad models that still use a Lightning port.

What does the 48 kHz 24-bit spec mean when I plug my headphones in?

It means the adapter can deliver up to 48 kHz sampling at 24-bit depth, so high-resolution tracks play back at their full quality without down-sampling.

What does the Lightning interface cap for audio output?

The Lightning connection limits output to the adapter's built-in 48 kHz 24-bit DAC, so audio quality tops out there regardless of the source file.
