Built for field work

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 is a 14-inch semi-rugged laptop certified to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 standards. It integrates a 1920 x 1080 multi-touch display, 4G LTE with FirstNet support, dedicated GPS, a DVD drive, smartcard and fingerprint readers, and a digitiser pen. Windows 10 Pro runs on an Intel Core i5-5300U at 2.3 GHz with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD.

Sustained operation

The semi-rugged chassis and IP65 rating protect internal components against dust, water jets, shock and vibration during extended shifts. Passive cooling handles the 2.3 GHz dual-core processor under continuous load without thermal throttling in typical field temperatures. The hot-swappable battery design allows uninterrupted runtime when AC power is unavailable.

Upgrade path

This unit replaces older semi-rugged notebooks that lack 4G LTE, FirstNet compatibility or multi-touch screens. The jump is worthwhile when crews need integrated GPS, smartcard authentication and MIL-STD certification in a single platform. Buyers who require larger storage volumes, discrete graphics or newer processor architectures should evaluate fully-rugged or current-generation alternatives.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Core i5-5300U get when the CF-54 runs continuously?

The 2.3 GHz dual-core processor is passively cooled where possible; under sustained load the fan spins up but stays within the MIL-STD-810G thermal envelope for a 14-inch semi-rugged chassis.

Which peripherals or accounts are required before the 4G LTE Multi FirstNet modem will connect?

An active FirstNet SIM and a compatible nano-SIM slot are needed; the modem also requires the built-in GPS antenna pass-through to be enabled in BIOS for full broadband-plus-location operation.

Will the 1920 x 1080 multi-touch panel and digitizer pen work with a legacy VGA projector through the dock?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 supports analogue output via the docking connector, so the touchscreen and pen remain functional while driving an external VGA display at up to 1920 x 1080.
