Connects one SFF-8087 36P port to four SATA 7P drives with a red .5 m cable
This red splitter cable connects a single SFF-8087 36-pin port to four SATA 7-pin drives. It suits builders adding multiple hard drives or SSDs to a backplane or RAID controller in a server or workstation. The 0.5 metre length keeps routing tidy inside compact chassis. The cable weighs 42 grams and uses copper conductors with plastic insulation.
The 36-pin SFF-8087 interface carries four independent SATA lanes, so each attached drive receives a dedicated 6 Gbps link. Positive latching on each SATA 7-pin plug secures the connection against vibration. No extra software or drivers are required; the operating system sees each drive individually. The red colour helps identify the cable in dense wiring looms.
The splitter supports up to four SATA drives simultaneously at full 6 Gbps per lane. It runs out of ports when a fifth drive is needed, requiring an additional controller port or a second splitter. The fixed 0.5 metre length limits placement to devices near the controller; longer runs would need a different cable. The 50 by 0.6 cm profile fits tight drive cages but offers no slack for wide spacing.

Both ends are passive copper contacts inside plastic housings; they do not wear out under normal insertions, so neither side typically requires replacement.
The 0.5 m length and 0.6 cm width keep signal loss low, so the practical limit is the host controller’s aggregate bandwidth, not the cable itself.
The cable draws no power of its own and generates no measurable heat; only the drives and controller contribute to thermal load.
