WD_BLACK D30 2TB Game Drive

The WD_BLACK D30 2TB portable SSD connects over USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and provides up to 2TB of storage for game libraries. It is built for console and PC gamers who want faster load screens without opening their system. The drive works with Windows 10, macOS 10.11+, PlayStation 5 for PS4 titles, and Xbox Series X|S for Xbox One games.

Sustained load behaviour

Optimised read speeds reach 900MB/s to reduce wait times during extended gaming sessions. The SSD maintains performance across long play periods without the slowdowns typical of mechanical drives. It is rated to operate continuously between 0°C and 45°C, so thermal throttling is unlikely under normal indoor conditions.

Thermals noise and power

With no moving parts the drive runs silently and draws power directly from the host USB port. The aluminium enclosure acts as a passive heatsink, keeping surface temperatures low during typical use. A detachable stand is included for upright placement, but the drive functions equally well laid flat.

Questions about this item

Does the WD_BLACK D30 2TB run hot or draw much power when it stays plugged in all day?

The drive operates between 0°C and 45°C with no active cooling, so it stays cool and silent during extended sessions.

What host port and cable do I need to reach the 900MB/s speed on this WDBATL0020BBK-WESN?

Can I keep using this SSD with my PlayStation 4 Pro and later move it to a PlayStation 5?

Yes — it works on PS4 Pro with firmware 4.50 or higher and on PS5 for playing and storing PS4 titles and archiving PS5 games.
