Multi-band radio tuner

The Sangean ATS-405 is a portable world-band receiver covering FM stereo, AM and continuous short-wave from 1710 kHz to 30 MHz. It stores 108 presets split equally across the three bands and offers five tuning methods including direct keypad entry and auto-scan. A built-in rechargeable battery and carrying pouch support extended mobile listening.

Ideal use and limits

Suits travellers and hobbyists who want a single device for international broadcasts, news and music across all three bands without relying on internet connectivity. Not for listeners who need single-sideband or CW reception, who require external antenna terminals for weak-signal DXing, or who prefer a pocket-sized unit for everyday carry.

Decisive specification

Continuous short-wave coverage up to 30 MHz with 36 dedicated SW presets and selectable wide or narrow filters determines whether this receiver matches the listener’s target bands and selectivity needs.

Questions about this item

Will the 108 presets cover the same FM and AM stations my older tabletop radio receives?

The tuner covers 87.50 MHz to 108 MHz FM and 520 kHz to 1710 kHz AM, so any station your older radio picks up in those ranges can be stored in the 36 FM or 36 AM preset slots.

How do I confirm the shortwave meter-band selection is working after I power it on?

Tune to a known shortwave frequency between 1710 kHz and 30 MHz; the super-bright LCD will display the meter band and signal strength, confirming the 14 meter-band selection is active.

Does the box include the rechargeable batteries and the carrying pouch shown in the photos?

The built-in battery charger and stylish carrying pouch are included; the radio operates on the supplied rechargeable cells, so no separate battery purchase is needed.
