Rugged 4TB portable drive for field use

The Silicon Power Armor A60 All-Black Edition is a 4TB portable hard drive built with a rubber casing and internal suspension to survive drops, dust and spraying water. It has passed the US military MIL-STD-810G transit drop test and meets IPX4 water-resistance, making it suited for outdoor photographers, survey crews and anyone moving data between rough environments. The 2.5" form factor keeps it pocketable without a separate power brick.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 limits sustained throughput

The drive uses a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, marketed as USB 3.2 Gen 1, which caps theoretical bandwidth at 5 Gbit/s. Real-world sequential speeds will sit well below that ceiling, and random access latency is governed by the mechanical platters inside. The cable-carry slot keeps the short Type-A lead tidy, but the fixed cable length restricts desk placement and the single port offers no daisy-chaining or alternate host connection.

Replaces fragile bare drives for mobile backup

This unit replaces unprotected 2.5" externals that fail after a single knock or splash. The upgrade is worth it when data is captured on location — construction sites, event shoots, field research — and must survive transport before offload. It is not for users who need SSD-class random performance, silent operation, or capacities beyond 4TB in a single rugged enclosure.

Questions about this item

Is the 4 TB capacity the only option for the Armor A60 All-Black Edition?

The product is listed with a 4 TB capacity; no other sizes are mentioned for this model.

What real-world transfer speed should I expect from the USB 3.0 interface on this drive?

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface supports up to 5 Gbit/s; actual throughput depends on the host controller and the mechanical drive inside the enclosure.

Does the USB 3.2 Gen 1 label mean the drive runs at 10 Gbit/s?

USB 3.2 Gen 1 is the same 5 Gbit/s signalling as USB 3.0; the drive uses a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, so its practical ceiling is 5 Gbit/s.
