Portable 6 TB USB 3.2 Gen 1 drive

The Western Digital My Passport WDBR9S0060BBK-WESN is a 6 TB portable hard drive that connects through a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface with USB 2.0 compatibility. It measures 0.81 x 2.95 x 4.22 inches and weighs 0.46 lb. The package includes a SuperSpeed USB-A cable, device management and backup software with password protection, and a quick install guide.

Suits Windows 10+ and ChromeOS users wanting

This drive works with Windows 10+ and ChromeOS out of the box. macOS 11+ requires a downloadable NTFS driver and reformatting before read/write use. It is not suited for buyers who need native macOS formatting, hardware encryption beyond 256-bit AES, or a ruggedised chassis with an IP rating.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface decides host speed

The single specification that determines transfer performance is the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, also known as USB 3.0, which caps the connection at 5 Gbps. Actual throughput will depend on the host port and cable quality.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface work with my older laptop that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the drive is USB 2.0 compatible so it will function on older ports, though transfer speeds will be limited to USB 2.0 rates.

How can I verify the 256-bit AES hardware encryption is active after I set a password?

After setting a password in WD Discovery, the drive locks automatically when ejected; you must enter the password to unlock and access files, confirming encryption is working.

Does the box include a USB-C cable or do I need to buy one separately for my newer computer?

The package includes a SuperSpeed USB-A cable (5Gbps); a USB-C cable or adapter is not included and must be purchased separately if your computer only has USB-C ports.
