Expands one PCIe x1 slot into six SATA 3.0 ports at 6Gbps for high-density drive arrays
This SMUGDESK expansion card converts a single PCIe x1 slot into six independent SATA 3.0 ports, each running at 6 Gbps. It is built for users who need to attach many drives to a system with limited expansion slots, such as Chia plotting rigs or home NAS builds. The card works in any PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot and supports both Windows and Linux without extra drivers.
The board uses a compact low-profile form factor that suits mining motherboards and small desktop cases where full-height cards cannot fit. Six standard SATA connectors are arranged along the bracket edge, allowing straight cable runs to drive cages or backplanes. No external power connector is present on the card, so all attached drives must be powered from the system’s own supply.
A large aluminium heatsink covers the controller chip, dissipating heat without a fan for completely silent operation during continuous heavy workloads. Power draw stays low because the card draws only from the PCIe slot itself, leaving the system’s power budget for the drives. Thermal performance remains stable in enclosed mining rigs or NAS enclosures with restricted airflow.

A PCIe x1 slot provides one lane of bandwidth, so the six SATA 3.0 ports share that single-lane throughput rather than each reaching the full 6 Gbps simultaneously.
The card fits any PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot and uses a standard full-height bracket for typical desktop or mining-rig chassis.
Insert the card, boot the OS, then install the vendor-supplied driver package; the step often missed is rebooting after the driver install so all six ports enumerate correctly.
