A 3.5" hot-swap caddy with a 2.5" adapter bracket fits Dell PowerEdge servers for mixed drive installation and storage expansion
The SMUGDESK F238F kit pairs a standard 3.5-inch hot-swap tray with a 2.5-to-3.5-inch converter bracket so you can install smaller SSDs or hard drives into full-size bays. It targets administrators expanding storage on Dell PowerEdge servers without replacing existing backplanes.
The all-metal construction conducts heat from the drive into the chassis air stream, so thermals depend entirely on the server’s own fan wall. No moving parts are added, meaning acoustic output stays at the level of the host system and power draw is limited to the installed drive itself.
The tray slides into compatible Dell PowerEdge bays and locks with a spring-loaded latch, allowing drive changes while the system runs. Metal rails and a reinforced frame resist flex during repeated swaps, and the adapter seats flush so front-panel alignment remains consistent across T340, T440, T640, T430, T630, R730, R930, T420, T620, R720, R320 and R420 models.

Mount the 2.5" drive onto the converter bracket using the four side screws, then slide the full assembly into the 3.5" tray until the latch clicks; the step often missed is tightening the bracket screws before insertion.
The solid metal tray is built for long service life and good heat dissipation; the plastic converter bracket may wear first if drives are swapped very frequently.
The 3.5" drive bay itself limits airflow around the smaller 2.5" drive, so thermal throttling of the SSD appears before any tray or adapter issue.
