A 3m braided cable with Mini DisplayPort and full-size DisplayPort connectors, aluminium shells, gold-plated tips

SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4 Cable 32.4 Gbps 8K 60Hz 4K 144Hz 3m

SKU CH-CP64-C1P8T

Connects Mini DisplayPort and DisplayPort devices bidirectionally at up to 8K 60 Hz, 4K 144 Hz, 2K 280 Hz, or 1080p 390 Hz with 32.4 Gbps bandwidth

  • Bi-directional link connects Mini DP laptops to full-size DP monitors or DP computers to Mini DP displays
  • 4 Gbps bandwidth drives 8K 7680x4320 at 60 Hz for sharp detail
  • 4K 3840x2160 at 144 Hz delivers smooth motion for gaming and creative work
  • Gold-plated connectors with aluminium shells resist corrosion and maintain signal integrity
  • Cotton-braided PVC jacket protects the copper conductors while staying flexible

What this cable connects

This Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4 cable links laptops or desktops with a Mini DP output to monitors, TVs or projectors that have a full-size DisplayPort input. It also works in reverse, sending video from a standard DisplayPort source to a Mini DisplayPort display. The 3 metre length suits typical desk or meeting-room setups. It is compatible with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 ports on MacBook models.

When the bandwidth jump matters

The cable carries up to 32.4 Gbps using HBR3 signalling, enabling 8K resolution at 60 Hz and 4K at up to 144 Hz. Lower resolutions such as 2K can reach 240 Hz or 280 Hz, while 1080p can hit 390 Hz. This headroom benefits creators who need 8K workspace and gamers who want high refresh rates at 4K or 1440p. If your display and GPU are limited to 4K 60 Hz, the extra bandwidth will not be used.

Limits of the DisplayPort 1.4 interface

DisplayPort 1.4 tops out at 32.4 Gbps, so 8K 60 Hz requires DSC compression; uncompressed 8K would exceed the link. HDR support is included, but colour depth and chroma subsampling depend on the source and sink capabilities. The bi-directional function only works when the Mini DisplayPort display actually accepts video input; many Mini DP monitors are output-only. Cable length beyond 3 metres may reduce maximum achievable refresh rates.

Questions about this item

What Mini DisplayPort size does the 3 m cable use for laptops or monitors?

The cable has a standard Mini DisplayPort connector on one end and a full-size DisplayPort connector on the other, both with gold-plated contacts.

How do I connect the cable so 8K 60 Hz works from a DisplayPort computer to a Mini DisplayPort monitor?

Plug the full-size DisplayPort end into the computer and the Mini DisplayPort end into the monitor; the monitor’s Mini DP port must support video output for bi-directional use.

Will the gold-plated connectors or braided jacket need any upkeep over time?

Gold-plated contacts resist corrosion and the cotton-braided PVC jacket is waterproof, so no regular maintenance is required.
