SMUGDESK USB 3.0 SSD Enclosure 17+7 Pin 2012 MacBook Pro Retina A1425 A1398

SKU CH-XQ91-GS4GT

Turns original 2012 MacBook Pro Retina SSDs into portable USB 3.0 SATA drives with an aluminum heat-dissipating case

  • Dedicated 17+7 pin slot fits only 2012 MacBook Pro Retina SSDs
  • USB 3.0 interface enables fast data backup and disk reuse
  • Full aluminum alloy shell dissipates heat and protects the SSD module
  • Driver-free plug-and-play works with macOS and Windows
  • Ultra-slim lightweight design makes old Apple SSD repurposing portable

Dedicated 17+7 Pin Enclosure

This USB 3.0 enclosure is built exclusively for the proprietary SATA SSDs removed from 2012 MacBook Pro Retina models. It fits the 13-inch A1425 and 15-inch A1398 laptops, including variants such as MC975, MC976 and MD213. The aluminium shell provides passive cooling and physical protection for the bare drive module. Plug-and-play operation works on macOS and Windows without drivers.

Owners of Retired Apple SSDs

The adapter suits users who have upgraded their 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and want to reuse the original flash storage as a portable backup or migration drive. It does not work with standard SATA drives, M.2 modules or SSDs from other laptop generations. Buyers needing an enclosure for a different connector or form factor must look elsewhere.

Proprietary 17+7 Pin Connector

The single decisive specification is the custom 17+7 pin slot that matches only the original Apple SSD from the listed 2012 Retina models. If the drive does not have this exact connector, it will not fit or function in this enclosure.
